Hiro Nakamura
Hiro Nakamura
Sports sweet soul patch. Is insanely affected by Ando's death. There are those out there who call him a terrorist, and apparently, he is wanted by the police. Puts together a timeline to try and pinpoint the exact time he needs to go back to and prevent the explosion. Timeline is in Isaac's old studio (see below)
Claire Bennet
Claire Bennet
Working in a diner, engaged to one of the cooks. Still in touch with HRG. Killed by Sylar, posing as her real father.
Nathan Petrelli
Nathan Petrelli
Deceased (see Sylar)

Mr. Bennet
Providing relocation services for those with powers.

Niki Sanders
Now a stripper, under the name Jessica, in Las Vegas, involved with Peter.

D.L. Hawkins
Deceased.

Simone Deveaux
Simone Deveaux
Long deceased.
Micah Sanders
Supposedly deceased.
Peter Petrelli
Dresses like Neo from the Matrix, is kind of like Neo from the Matrix, has enormous scar across face, 'dating' Niki.
Isaac Mendez
Long deceased, but his apartment is used for Hiro's timeline.

Matt Parkman
Works for the Company, extinguishing those with powers.

Mohinder Suresh
Yes-man to the President, refuses to commit genocide. Realizes the day he recieved his father's ashes was the same day he was on the subway with Peter when he claimed to haved been visited by a man from the future telling him "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World."

Sylar
Future Sylar
At the beginning of the episode is believed to be not only dead but the bomb that annihilated NYC. Has killed Nathan and is impersonating him as the President of the United States. Has Mohinder as a personal advisor, boss of Parkman and the Haitian. Finds Claire and kills her, revealing himself along the way. Gives speech as Nathan to commemorate the five years since the explosion. Flies away from that then goes to face Peter. Shows off his nifty new powers then has a huge fire v. ice showdown with Peter.

BURNING QUESTIONS

  • How did Peter get that nasty scar?
  • Is Micah dead? What about Molly?
  • Why is Parkman such a jerk?
  • Who wins the big Peter v. Sylar battle?

BEST LINES

  • "No way, I scare me".- Hiro referring to Future Hiro.

  • "Brother versus brother, it's almost biblical" Sylar as Nathan to Peter
  • "Don't worry New York, we will save you!" Hiro with Ando as they come back to the past.

TRIVIA

  • The episode seems to have been inspired by the X-Men story "Days of Future Past" which imagines a future where mutants are hunted down, humanity is ready to destroy itself in war and an attempt is made to go back in time and prevent the event that caused it all to happen.

9th BLUNDERS (continuity errors, goofs, and factual misrepresentations)

  • If Peter was able to regenerate when Sylar originally attempted to kill him (by slicing his skull) then wouldn't Claire be able to do so as well?

An excellent prelude for what is to come. The gradual build up to the final two episodes has been great. The sequence between "Nathan's" speech and Peter, Hiro, and HRG's deployment against Matt and the Haitian. Mohinder's betrayal to save present Hiro. It was incredible.
