Claire is the one that shows up then and not Hiro. She takes the gun and points to Peter, nervously shuts once, but, Sylar reverts the bullet and grazes Claire with it, she heals. she knows she need to get close to Peter to do it, she moves in. but Sylar throws nuclear balls at her, but she heals and keeps comming, telekinesis but she gets up, heals and keeps coming. Sylar has one last trick: his power of persuasion (another power he stole, he could not have use it until then because to much stuff going on to do so, you need a calm moment) and makes Claire point the gun at her head (taking out a piece of wood is not the same us a bullet). Sylar tells her "the glory is mine", the rest try to help but Sylar pushes them back. And Peter can use any of his powers because he can control blowing up. At the moment is when Hiro appears and freezes time and runs the blade throw sylar before he can unfreeze ( I think sylar unfroze on his own once before). Hiro take the gun from Claire and places it on the ground. He looks at Peter and everyone else. "I can keep you frozen forever Peter Patrelli." Hiro is at his most desperate. Hiro looks up and there is Nathan floating frozen above his head. Hiro says:"Mr. Patrelli will know what to do". and unfreezes time. Nathan gets to the ground, Sylar falls to it, but before any one can say anything Sylar sends Hiro flying and he disappears. sylar "dies". Nathan runs to Claires side grabs the gun and points at Peter. That's when he says "I love you Peter .......".with tears in his eyes, he shuts. But, the bullets evaporate before reaching him because of his out of control radiation/telekinesis. Nathan turns to Claire and kisses her on the forehead she starts to cry. She knows what he is going to do. he moves close to Peter and then says:"you save the cheerleader, so we could save the world." and then they go up. the end. |

The family comes out of the building at the moment and stop to see what's going on. Then comes the scene with the cop not before. But Sylar doesn't just revert the bullet, he smack the cop against the building damaging it enough so debris fall on Micah, hurting him a bit. ( it make more sense why Nikki would fight), then the whole meter thing happens. Sylar being more powerful hits Peter not to the ground but against the fountain with the meter and telekinesis, hurting him. At the same moment Nikki is going after him. Sylar tries to stop Nikki with his power, but he does not count on how strong she is. With some effort She reaches him and take the meter, he is shocked. nikki smacks him around a few times. but Sylar manages to finally throw her near her family. Sylar places his attention on Peter again, who heals himself and is getting up from the blow. Peter becomes invisible in the hope of getting close enough to hurt him. but us he gets close Sylar goes " I can hear you" ( he had stolen super hearing) and smack him to where the family is. Nikki and DL touch him and Nikki says: "fight for us". Peter with both powers gets close to Sylar and is putting his fingers inside his brain, but sylar being more in control of his power takes them out before peter becomes solid and do real damage. Peter then punches him a couples of times and starts to glow. Sylar get up and says: "blah blah..... I'm the hero" then he plays with his nuclear power, making balls with his hands and says, "you think I am going to let you........ ". |

I know I'm playing backseat writer/director and all, but that was ridiculous, here is how it should have gone:
it would start the same, to the point where Mr. Bennett is thrown against the wall. Sylar says,"having I kill you blah blah", but when he goes to choke Peter. He counter acts with the same power and says, " I learn a few things since then". They are locked in a telekinetic struggle. |

Ok, is it just me, or did the ending make absolutely NO sense. If Peter can heal himself, why didn't Claire just shoot him to stop the explosion? We already know that he can regenerate himself from the Five Years Gone episode, and we know he can survive a bullet because he survived the glass incident with Sylar. And why did Nathan have to die as well? They better have a good explanation in Season 2.

Here's how you do a beatdown: Sylar goes after the little girl so he can find all the heroes. Parkman intervenes as promised and is killed. Noah and Mohinder are powerless to stop him. But Niki, DL etc. show up and maternal Niki breaks his arm if not rips it off before being flung. DL phases into Sylar creating an open torso wound before being ejected. Peter then arrives and uses invisibility to ineffectively beat him up, then picks up that parking meter at which point Sylar melts it and with Peter exposed wollops him. But before he can kill him, Claire intervenes and is momentarily killed. Allowing Hiro time to teleport directly in front of Sylar to deliver his sword attack, grievously wounding Sylar. With Claire hurt, Peter goes near nuclear to finish off Sylar but can't contain it at which point Nathan arrives sans the sappy sentimentality and both do their somber bidding. The end. Oh well, I can dream ...

Overall, Heroes has a good 1st season...but for some reason, the creators somehow mess up the Finale. Which is a shame, because the ledup was so good.
We know how powerful and evil Sylar is. Yet, in his confrontation with Peter, the best he can do is choke him in the air? For a finale, viewers expect to see big bang, high octane action special effects. The confrontation between these Sylar and Peter is much less entertaining than a fight between Jerry Springer's guests. Peter didn't even put up a fight, he didn't even use ANY of his power to fight Sylar. What kind of show down is that? Disappointing. Somehow, the creator and writers of Heroes completely miss the mark for a decent finale for Heroes. Sylar and Peter's fight should have been as spectacular as the fight they have 5 years into the future. The ground they stood on should have been ripped out, glasses falling from building the DNA statue in the plaza collapsing. Instead, the finale is as still as Buddhist meditating. Nikki got a swing at Sylar, but she was called off by her son saying her husband needs her. Huh? I can understand Nikki might be no match for Sylar, but she should have like someone said, break his arm or something. Sylar didnt' get hurt that badly in the finale up until he was kllled, but Sylar seemed so weak to me. Hiro should have killed Sylar by suddenly teleporting in Sylar's face, punch the sword into Sylar's chest, and teleport out. Instead, Hiro moves as slow as a turtle, even Sylar's grandpa could have dodge Hiro's attack. Tim has said how he knows how to avoid mistakes that LOST made. Ironically, it is LOST's Season 3 finale that beats Heroes Season 1 finale hands down. LOST S3 finale has enough intrigue and action to satisfy what viewer wants to see in a finale. Yet, Heroes' strong latter half season somehow dipped into a lackbuster finale. "What happened dude? even Hurley would wonder. |

I enjoyed many moments over the course of the season, but the finale was a bit of a let down, especially the last 10-15 minutes. The "climactic" batle between Peter and Sylar particularly was a letdown. I expect more, and Peter seems to never know how to use his abilities. Why did they spend all that time making him "train" with Claude? If I was writing for the show, I would also have done better to show Peter gaining Niki's powers, than her all of a sudden walking up to Sylar to grab the parking meter. Then Micah yells "dad needs your help". I believe DL needed it before she walked off. Seemed out of place? Also the dialogue in the last 10-15 was pretty cheesy at times. Like "your my hero Officer Parkman!" Also the part where Nathan swoops in to save the day, ala "The Incredibles" and he and Peter discuss their brotherly love. One point to make though, people seem to forget before Peter ever had any contact with Ted, he started to glow because of all his powers being too much for him (when he was with Claude in the alley), he said "oh no its happening" and Ted punched him in the face. So the fact he couldnt control it at the end is not so unbelievable, seeing as he also had 5 new heroes in his proximity, giving him new powers.

This was a sad finish to a great season. The climatic battle at the end was weak. What happened to Sylars powers. He stops the bullets and kills the cop, chokes petrelli with telekinesis, but fails to stop somebody walking up to him with a meter pole and then even worse allows peter to punch him? Also peter's ability and then inability to control Ted's power just seemed bizarre. There were some good moments and I'll definitely watch next season, but the writers need to do a better job delivering on their setups.

Overall, I think the writers did a FANTASTIC job with the season finale! The appeal of this show is similar to "Lost". I feel that the writers learned a valuable lesson from how "Lost" has become so wierd and complicated because the writers never tie up any plot line.
The writers for "Heroes" did a great job killing off (or did they?--what was with the manhole shot?) Syler according to how the comic book predicted and teased us with tantalizing tidbits of next season's story (the man that can see Molly when she thinks about him and Hiro going back in time 3 centuries with a total solar eclipse...). I loved it!! |

Peter can only use 1 power at a time. As he was focused on not exploding, if Clair shot him, he wouldn't of exploded. As for flying, again, he can only use one power at a time. But you would think Nathin would fly his brother "peter" up and then TAKE OFF as he falls letting him explode so Nathan doesn't die. I mean come on, the dude is fast.

After putting up with longer than usual breaks and story lines just fizzle. I think that when it comes to Heroes:Generations, I will wait for the box set. Especially after watching what could have been a good episode fizzle into just another day at work.
The best episode by far is when Hiro went 5 years into the future. |
